Founded in 1937, Far Eastern State Transport University today is a modern centre for innovations and education, one of the best in the Russian Far East.

University graduates create modern machinery and equipment, manage the transport process, develop automated control systems, build railways and engineering structures, work as economists and financiers, are engaged in commercial activities, international transportation, service and tourism industries.

FESTU consists of 10 institutes, 3 faculties, lyceum and Military training centre. The university has 4 branch institutions in the cities across the Far Eastern Federal District of the Russian Federation: Svobodny (Amur Oblast), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Sakhalin Oblast), Tynda (Amur Oblast) and Ussuriysk (Primorsky (Krai).

Total number of students (January 1, 2020) - 19217.

Total number of foreign students (January 1, 2020) - 374.

International cooperation has always been a priority for FESTU. In November 1992, the first enrollment of foreign students began to study at the university: more than 100 Chinese students from Harbin and Changchun.

FESTU provides various facilities for nurturing either artistic or physical talents. FESTU student club is a creative workshop uniting two dozen creative teams and studios. Sport facilities include football field, swimming pool, climbing wall etc.

FESTU labs are among the best in the region. Here are some of them: Microprocessor-based motion control station lab, Brake systems lab, Schneider Electric specialized power lab, Diagnostics and non-destructive testing methods lab, Fiber-optic communication lines center, Information security lab.
